Why would I have to worry about homophobic people in my journey….Well simply because when I choose a family, I chose a same-sex couple. Homophobia ~ “Encompasses a range of negative attitudes and feelings toward homosexuality or people who are identified or perceived as being lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT).” I know I should not let those people’s judgement effect me but when comments are made directly to Austin and Chloe in regards to who their birth brother would be adopted by, its hard to let judgement not bother you.
Here is how it relates and affected us as a family. Two weeks before the birth, Austin and Chloe went to visit their father for the first time in years. While they were visiting, Their Father and his wife decided to discuss of the adoption with my kids. They bluntly said “I was WRONG for choosing a same-sex couple and they did not support that decision but supported the decision of placement.” Wait a minute – you said WHAT to my kids…..Needless to say this burned a bridge with their relationship. Since August 2014, Austin and Chloe have yet to visit or have expressed interest in visiting because their father and his wife are suffers from Homophobia.
